Great Body Wood = Great Guitar

Tonewood is the term generally used to designate wood with desirable and consistent resonant qualities, used in the making of musical instruments. The tonewood selected for a solid body guitar is an important factor in the way it sounds. Each tonewood species and cut has its own unique characters.

• The wood species of the guitar body effects its tone
• The wood density effects the tone and weight of your guitar
• The wood colors, patterns, figuring and chatoyance effect the appearance of your guitar
• The sap viability effects the tonal quality of your guitar
• The way the tonewood is cured will effect the tone, look, and structural stability of your guitar

Many of the wood species from the US Pacific NW meet this criteria, and more. Some were well known by luthiers, but others, like Myrtlewood, Claro, Franquette & Bastogne Walnut, Port Orford Cedar, Redwood, Pistachio, Olive, Osage Orange and Douglas Fir are just now gaining notoriety.
