Oregon Wild Wood, Bastogne WalnutBastogne Walnut - One of the rarest Walnut in the world. When English (Franquette) Walnut was brought to Northern California, It occasionally cross pollinated with the Claro walnut. About 1 in 100 successful cross pollinations yield this rare Walnut variation, very different from either English or Claro Walnut and not capable of reproducing. Originally called Paradox Walnut, Bastogne Walnut is now the more common name. Only a few of these trees exist at any one time.

The colors and figuring are usually outstanding in Bastogne Walnut. At 1460 on the Janka hardness scale, Bastogne Walnut is substantially harder than other Walnut varieties and is similar in hardness to Rock Maple or old growth Brazilian Rosewood. Bastogne Walnut luthier sets are distinctive in look and tone.

Oregon Wild Wood Walnut Claro Walnut - Juglans hindsii - from N. California & Oregon, often possesses a beautiful purple brown tone, and is often highlighted with pink, green, golden and tan. It has a higher incidence of intense figure and curl than do many other Walnut varieties. Claro Walnut has good hardness at 950 on the Janka hardness scale. Our stock is all air dried, which allows the wood to more effectively retain the beautiful secondary colors for our solid body guitar tops, guitar necks and acoustic guitar luthier sets.

Franquette Walnut - (Juglans regia) aka Carpathian/English Walnut. The Franquette is a very old Walnut variety, originating in Persia. For centuries it was cultivated for nut production, but is now being replaced with more productive hybrids. Franquette Walnut is very dense and hard (1200 on the Janka scale) with spectacular high contrast marbling. It is highly prized for solid body guitar tops, guitar and acoustic guitar back and side sets.

Claro Walnut, Franquette Walnut and Bastogne Walnut are all fabulous top woods for electric guitars and basses and make great acoustic guitar back and side sets.
