Myrtlewood - Umbellularia californica - also known as Oregon Myrtle, California Laurel, California Bay, Pepperwood and Spicetree, is a rare evergreen hardwood that grows in a very limited range along the Pacific Coast, from extreme northern California through southern Oregon.

Figured Myrtlewood is one of the most exotic woods growing in North America. Figured Myrtlewood occurs in a wide range of colors and contrasts. It's moderately light in weight at about 3 1/2 lbs/bf, but very strong and hard. The grain is even, fine, and interlocking, with very few widely scattered pores, barely visible to the eye. Myrtlewood can be sanded to a beautiful extremely fine finish.
